MUSEUM EXHIBIT
For those who dream of becoming pilots and leaders in the world of aviation.
As of 2021, only 9.6% of airline pilots are women, and an estimated 1% of this number are Latinas. In 2020, aviator and author Jacqueline Ruiz published Latinas
in Aviation: Stories of Passion, Power, and Breaking into the Aviation Industry with the goal of inspiring young Latinas interested in “becoming pilots and leaders in the world of aviation”
On October 2, 2021, the College Park Aviation Museum collaborated with Ruiz and hosted the first “Latinas in Aviation Global Festival.” The fly-in of 15 Latinas added to the legacy of College Park Airport as a field of firsts. The women flew in from around the world to bring together our local community, promote aviation, and share their inspiring stories.
As you examine their mementos, consider the determination of these women and the sacrifices they needed to make in order to become the Latinas of Aviation.
